Skills to Shine: Certificate Program
We are thrilled to bring back Community Living Dufferin’s certificate program! This 6 week program will run once a week, where you will have a chance to build valuable life skills across a range of topics. Each session will be both engaging and informative, led by staff from Community Living Dufferin as well as professionals from the community. At the end of the program, you will receive a “Skills to Shine” certificate as recognition for your achievement.
1. Circles with Paula: Wednesday April 8
Circles training teaches social distance and boundaries, self-protection, and acceptable behaviour related to touch, talk and trust. In defining our boundaries, it allows self-care choices and protection physically, emotionally, spiritually, sexually and financially helping to protect us
2. Wellness with Michelle: Wednesday April 15
This program focuses on the key points of wellness, healthy strategies, and building life skills. Participants will learn simple ways to take care of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being through guided activities and group discussions.
The program will explore topics such as stress management, healthy routines, positive thinking, and goal setting. Participants will practice useful strategies they can use in daily life to support independence and confidence. By the end of the program, participants will work toward earning a certificate of completion, recognizing their learning and participation.

This program offers a supportive and encouraging space to learn, grow, and succeed.
3. Healthy Relationships with Public Health Nurse: Wednesday April 2
We will have a discussion and interactive dialogue about all kinds of relationships:
-what makes a person feel respected, comfortable and safe?
-discuss the numerous sorts of relationships that we have in our day-to-day life.
-What is the importance of having healthy boundaries and making them known to people around us?
We will go through scenarios using activities.
4. Community Safety with OPP Officer, Amy: Wednesday April 29
A local police officer will share practical tips on community safety, how to spot and avoid fraud, ways to identify legitimate police officers, and when it's appropriate to contact police. This brief session is designed to help you stay informed, safe, and connected with your local law enforcement.
5. Fire Prevention with Fire Fighter Kelly: Wednesday May 6
In this interactive session, participants will move from room to room in the ”hazardous house” and identify the fire hazards inside. Together we will make each room safe. We will discuss smoke/CO alarm types, maintenance and placement, fire drill/home escape practices, kitchen fire procedures, and keeping exits clear.
6.Adventures of Coping with Katie: Wednesday May 13
This program helps participants learn simple coping skills to manage stress and strong emotions. Through discussion, individuals will explore ways to recognize feelings and discover strategies that work best for them, such as relaxation techniques, creative expression, and seeking support. Participants will gain tools to support emotional well-being in everyday life.
Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. April 8 - May 13, 2026

Cost: $250 for 6 weeks
