Building Dreams new home

Building Dreams Together

An innovative partnership sure to be a model for other communities. The goals are innovative and bold. The results will be inspiring, uplifting, and life enriching.
A keystone of the partnership is the development of a groundbreaking new program of drama classes for people with developmental disabilities, a concept endorsed by the provincial government through a grant of $25,000 from the Ministry of Culture. The program will focus on confidence building, improved communication skills, the development of social skills and improvement in quality of life.

Vital to the success of the new partnership is the construction of a new building to house Community Living Dufferin’s non-residential programs and most Theatre Orangeville’s off-stage operations.

The new building will also be available for use by a wide range of community groups, bringing people together and opening a world of possibilities.

Community Living Dufferin supports pre-school children, older teens and adults living throughout Dufferin County who have developmental disabilities.

We emphasize respect and dignity for people as individuals.  We make sure our supports match what people want and need from us.

We advocate, mentor, coach, counsel, train and support in every way possible to help the people who use our services realize their potential and live full and rewarding lives.

Most of our services are provided at two industrial buildings in Orangeville. Our programs and  services are hampered by a number of space related problems. We’re an advocate for accessibility housed in a building full of barriers.

Building Issues at Centennial Road:
• Accessibility
• Un-useable space
• Separated Sites
• Cost $312,000 a year for rent and utilities
• Transportation Issues
• Space Constraints
• Energy Costs

Best known for professional stage productions, Theatre Orangeville also runs hugely popular and successful programs for the young people of our community. Youth programs impact more than 6,400 young people every year.

The Theatre Orangeville Dream Factory will be the home of the Youth Programs and the centre of creative activities that bring to life the magic that Theatre Orangeville productions are known for.

Rehearsal is key to the success of any production. With the Opera House stage unavailable during the day, dedicated rehearsal space is a necessity. This space will be made available to other community performing groups.

Building Issues at Theatre Orangeville:
Being forced into a number of temporary locations brings the threat of losing:

• Strong relationships built with suppliers and other arts and culture groups within the community.
• The dynamic synergy that results when all elements of the creative process involved in staging a production are housed together
• The reuse and recycling of sets, props and costumes that is possible with proper storage
