Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) Videoconferencing

As the largest videoconferencing network in the world, OTN is available in telemedicine studios located at more than 1200 sites across the Province. Videoconferencing makes it possible for health care professionals to conduct initial and/or follow-up patient consultations, or participate in distance education and meetings. OTN is extending the reach of telemedicine by making it possible for physicians to access videoconferencing from their personal computers.

Currently, OTN supports videoconferencing for three main applications:

• Clinical Telemedicine Expand patient access to diagnosis and treatment.
• Refer patients or see patients as if you were in the room.

Distance Education:

OTN enables teaching and learning at a distance via videoconferencing and webcasting. OTN connects learners to academic centres and other education providers. More than 390,000 health care professionals participate in OTN-facilitated education each year.

• Participate in Rounds and other accredited continuing health education at every hospital and hundreds of other sites across Ontario.
• Links more than 1175 sites.
• Facilitates more than 3,000 Rounds annually.
• Broadcasts more than 28,000 webcast views annually.
• Allows on-demand webcast viewing at learner's convenience.
• Provides community outreach. Reduces time, distance and cost barriers.
• Facilitates in-depth collaboration with colleagues.
